"Dibs" is a painting from my Lovely Eccentrics series. It shows a very...stubborn-looking young woman standing in front of a high mountain. Given her expression, as well as the existence of a brand new red flag at the mountain's tip, It looks like she may have just climbed down; now, she's letting everyone know that, hey. That mountain? That one right there? It's hers. Go find your own mountain somewhere else, mister.
"Dibs" is a 9 by 12 inch mixed media piece on stretched, gallery-wrapped canvas. The sides are painted, so this little miss is ready to hang as soon as you receive her. The piece itself is a mixed media painting that includes vintage photographs, decorative papers, acrylic paints, oil pastels, charcoal, pen and ink, and other assorted ephemera. Letters spelling "MINE" have been collaged next to the little girl, just in case there was any question about ownership. Did you have any question about ownership? Yeah, I didn't think so.
The multiple layers of paper, paint, and ephemera on this work create a great texture, and the piece is really cool in person. And, it's different on different monitors, but the background is actually a light shade of blue-green, sort of like a verdigris. Finally, the entire piece has been sealed with a heavy acrylic varnish, giving the overall piece a professional and rich-looking finish.
